Astronaut Don Pettit Creates the First Mailing Address in Space

Current Events
5/22/12
For us addresses are very common on Earth, but what about in space. This article is about Astronaut Don Pettit. He supposedly created an address in the darkness of space. This takes place in the International Space Station. This happened in the middle of the month May. This was created to give the International Space Station an address, to be communicated with. The zip code was 51.603.

I think this address was a waste of time, and this time could be used to research environmental problems, such as global warming. There is no reason to make an address of a place that is not going to receive anything from the Earth soon. Because of the global disasters, and weather patterns, research about this topic would be very beneficial. Also this zip code is only accurate until 99 space stations is in work in the orbit, considering Don's nomenclature. Lastly now because we are in the hi-tech era, addresses would not be of much us. Now we would use e-mail or our cell-phones.
"Postage rates, however, are likely going to be ASTRONOMICAL." Words from the passage

Current Events #2

This article is an amazing article relating to the highest drop in history, and of a man that can survive it. In this article a man named  Felix Baumgartner, took a 120,000-foot free fall with a very complex suit, helping him survive this type of impact. This extraordinary event took place above Roswell, New Mexico. This super-strong suit was created in the behalf of NASA, sponsored by Red Bull. Engineers at the David Clark Company took four years creating, and remodeling this high-altitude full-pressure this one suit. This company makes these hi-tech suits for NASA and for the Department of Defense. This was created for personal reference, and the title of the longest jump ever attempted to accelerate through the sound barrier, without a craft.

I actually think this hi-tech suit could really work, because of its features and attributes. First this suit has four different layers for extra-support and mobility. The outer layer is made of Nomex, a fire-retardant material that is also considered an insulator. Under that, there will be a mesh restraint, which holds a gas-filled bladder. The innermost layer is a breathable liner, and when this suit is pressurized it is rigid, and strong. To avoid decompression sickness, hypoxia and tissue damage, the suit has a pressure system that lets the person breathe pure air, and it remains at 3.5 psi (Per Square Inch). Also this will depressurize at 35,000 feet, hence giving more mobility. Third there is a chest part that gives power to the suit through twin sets of lithium batteries, that powers a chest containing a wide 120-degree angle, accelerometer, inertial-measurement unit, and a de-icing system for the visors, for the frigid temperatures up in the stratosphere. Next there is a G-meter, that at precise times, when there are objects in the stratosphere that might hit the suit and damage it, this device will accurately launch a special parachute to deflect these spins. Next there is a face shield, that is self-explanatory, a shield that covers your face. Lastly there is a specific parachute system. There are four different parachutes, some used for emergencies, some used at a certain height or altitude in mid-air.

Science Packet

Over the coarse of days when my teacher was gone, my class and I had to do a lot of work. We had to read a textbook, and answer two worksheets about air pressure, and weather. We were instructed to do that no-matter what. Next we had to get a total of 50 points by different activities, and each activity was worth a certain number of points. I completed everything, and went above-and-beyond, and got a total of 60 points. The activities contained brain-pop worksheets, and different weather worksheets, and puzzles. Most of the 7th grade students and I could not access the study-island, because we had to go to 8th grade, and the website did not show any tab to enter it. All in all, I had a lot of fun, but it was very boring not having my teacher there!

Current Events: Petite Particle Accelerator

A Proton Gun For Killing Tumors

Tumors is a swelling of a part of the body, that is caused by the abnormal growth of tissue. Some of these tumors can be stopped or decreased, but some very lethal, and can kill instantly. Now there has been a new machine made to completely eliminate tumors through a series of steps. This machine gets power from many fiber-optic cables, connected to a particle-accelerator, the size of an airplane hangar, and $100 million dollars. Expensive Huh? I'm not done yet. There is also another 13-foot particle-accelerator, that costs $30 million dollars. This massive machine was created at the Compact Particle Acceleration Corporation in Livermore, California. This can't be out commercially until 2015. This was created for the unfortunate tumor patients, and this machine is much more precise, and will not hurt surrounding tissue.

This machine is a very good decision to make (not considering the money) because of many reasons, and because of the benefit of mankind. This obviously helps patients fight through tumor, in a much pain-less manner. Like I said before, the proton beam has more precise aim, than other similar machines. In the result of the accuracy, the beam does not effect the surrounding tissue as much. This is controlled by many different systems, so if one fails, the beam doesn't stop, or decrease in power. Lastly, this is a very high-tech machine, that could symbolize the start of a new era, or generation of technology.
