States of Matter

These experiments have shown the basis of all living beings, from humans, to plants, to bacteria, all are made up of atoms, some times without an electron, etc. This tells me many facts such as: solids having a definite shape and volume, liquids have a definite volume, but not shape, and lastly there are gases, that have neither a definite shape nor volume. Then there is the fourth state of matter, plasma. Plasma is really common in the universe, but is not found on Earth. Plasma is basically an iodized gas, which lets ions and electrons to coexist. Plasma is very unstable and a dangerous type of matter. There is only one way to turn a gas into plasma, and that is to go through a process called ionization. Ionization is a process of extracting the electrons, letting it freely roam around. causing it to become a very dangerous. The only way to revert the plasma to a gas, is to go through a process called deionization. I could need these skills for future experiments and knowledge, and maybe even for jobs in the future.

In class we had the lab about the sugar cube and its physical properties, then its chemical properties after it was burned. The physical properties were small, cube-shaped, white, sweet, rough, and bumpy. Hence no new substance is formed. We then broke the cube in two pieces, but still did not change the chemical make-up of the object. Then we burned the cube, causing a new substance to be formed, burnt sugar cubes. Hence, this did change the chemical make-up, that is why a new substance was formed.

P.S. Happy Super-Bowl Sunday 2012: GO GIANTS!!! Giants Colors!!!
