Diffusion Lab

The purpose of he lab was to make us understand the relationship between the bag, and the cell membrane. Also the other purpose was that you can see how the cell membrane works. We made predictions such as the iodine being an indicator, and the water, and starch in the bag would change to the color purple. There are many new terms that we learned during this lab. The word “diffusion” means when molecules move from a high concentrated area to a low concentrated area. “Osmosis” means the movement of water molecules; “indicator” means a chemical detector for other partials. “Concentration” means the amount of a substance per defined space; the word “dilute” means to make it less concentrated. “Hypertonic” means high concentrated; “hypotonic” means less concentrated. “Isotonic” means the amount of concentration is the same.

There are many things we learned in this lab. This lab shows how the cell membrane in our body works, and functions. The bag represents the cell membrane, but because it’s semi-permeable, the really small iodine molecules got in, and as an indicator turned the water purple, indicting that starch is in the bag.

Air conditioning blows cold air from one high concentrated place to another are with less concentration. If you burn something such as food the smoky air will fill throughout the room. When you blow on a trumpet, the sound waves travel around the room. When you boil water the heat travels from the bottom, high concentration, to the top, low concentration.
